Coaling Tipple. Here is an original photo that I took from the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Here is a near-ground-level view facing railroad west. In addition to the many deadlined PRR diesels and passenger cars, the half-Roundhouse and the 17th Street Bridge in Juniata are visible here. At the far right is PRR engine #2010-B, a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in February of 1952, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967 after just 15 years of revenue service. |
